Welcome to the Wildlifeuk newsletter
|
It has been a funny sort of week, at one stage it seemed more like autumn, with large numbers of swallows on the wires and large flocks of finches. Perhaps a sign of things to come. We have done quite well on our five and a half acres this year, with among others, three pairs of Grasshopper Warblers. However there is now a lot of work to be done on the land. The badger film is coming along although I have not spent as much time as I should at the edit desk. Steve has done better, with the web site, do not forget to check out the free screensaver that he has set up. I hope to have another session with the kites next week, just to see what is going on, and shoot some film in slow motion of their acrobatics.

| Introducing a tower hide to this site was not an option for us, as there was a footpath nearby. So the camera was attached to the tree opposite the nest out of view of the footpath, the photographer, covered in camouflage netting etc, residing in a nearby ditch. So good was the concealment, that when soldiers on exercise, crawled by, heavily decked out in their own camo gear, they passed within 6 ft of my position, oblivious to my presence. They did however spot the camera, forcing me to reveal myself. The site of the creature from the black lagoon, rising from the ditch, had the expected result. “Heart attacks all round”. Good job I was not the enemy eh!!
