| Welcome to the Wildlifeuk newsletter
|
Spring is definitely on the
way, the birds are singing and the sun is
shining. (long may it last). The kite
photography has proved very rewarding, and the
new batch of images have been sent to webmaster
Steve for inclusion on the site (keep watching).
I adopted the same technique as that used for
the Red Squirrels, namely sitting out in full
view allowing the birds to become used to my
presence. This allowed me to work unhindered and
close to these spectacular birds, the longest
lens used being a 400mm and all hand held.
Recently I have been spending some enjoyable
evenings watching a pair of otters playing, this
has been especially pleasing, as the action has
been taking place on my own property, entailing
nothing more than a short walk out of the back
door. Jim has recently presented me with a large
number of images for the site, and many hours
are being consumed in the scanning. (watch this
space). There are some great images of Jims to
be added, including such birds as Hawfinches,
Water Rails, Hoopoes and more. The highlight of
the last month, came one afternoon when we had a
Red Kite on the patio six inches from the door,
a crow had dropped some food after being mugged
by the Kite, who waddled up for his reward, well
fairs fair the food was originally intended for
the kites any way. Well the sun is shining, so I
am off down to watch the otters. The year is off
to a great start Gary .
The
Newsletter will now only be
sent out once a month this is partly due to time
constraints on my part and I feel the content
can best be served over this time
scale.
